Home Away from Home
The home in which we stayed would be considered wealthy by Laoang standards. And our host Ann would be considered generous and gracious by ANY standard. A retired teacher, Ann employed Deesa and Maurice to assist her in making all six of us feel comfortable and safe.
We divvied up sleeping spaces based on marital status and Tom's length. Every bedroom was thankfully supplied with mosquito netting and portable fans.
We all shared a single toilet that generally flushed after we poured pans of water into the stool. We bathed using a sprayer fueled by rainwater that was collected in a rain barrel/cistern system.
The only hot water I experienced in the Philippines was in Manila, so I found it easier and less breathtaking to quickly shower off using pans of water. Tom wisely packed headlights which we used in the otherwise candlelit bathroom.
Our bedrooms were off a large gathering area where we enjoyed tea that Ann provided every morning and every evening.

I remember visiting a friend in Thailand and having to add a pitcher of bowling water to a larger bucket of cold water to take a speedy luke-warm "shower" (or to be more exact- "cup pour"). Again, Ann seems like the hostess with the mostest!
